Dagje Blijdorp

Zaterdag heb ik een 1-op-1 uitje met Martin gehad, zo gezellig! Alle jongens zijn al eens in Blijdorp geweest, met ons, of schoolreisjes, maar hij nog nooit. Nu kwam ik een actie van Vicks tegen , waarbij kinderen tot 10 jaar gratis op bezoek konden in de dierentuin omdat Vicks het ijsbeertje op 6 december 1 jaar wordt. Heb gelijk een kaartje besteld!
Had hij wel even nodig, die positieve aandacht, even alleen met mama op stap. Papa mocht die dag het huishouden doen, inclusief 3 jongens in toom houden :)
We zijn met de tram en metro gegaan, heel makkelijk. Bij de Rivièra-ingang naar binnen, en gelijk de Rivièra-hal ingeschoten. Mooi!

Maar wat ik echt mooi vond was de vlindertuin... ondanks de hitte kon ik het daar wel even uithouden! Martin vond het eerst maar niks, maar even later begon hij het toch ook wel leuk te vinden, al die vlinders. Ook de Blauwe Morpho-vlinder gezien, maar die krijg je zowat niet op de foto zeg, wat een actief beest. Wist trouwens niet dat die zo groot waren! Ja ja, met Diego leer je nog eens wat... De blauwe morpho-vlinder is de vlinder links, met die mooie bruine vleugels met ogen.



Ook hebben we een Toy Society-drop gedaan in de vlindertuin, een set van 4 hondjes:


De andere hondjes hebben we achtergelaten in het treintje wat door het park reed, de roze vogel in de trekvogelvolière en het witte vogeltje tegenover de bizons.

We kwamen ook nog bij een klein eilandje met vosmangoesten, wat een mooie beestjes zijn dat. Zien er lief uit, maar wat een pit...

Martin vond de bubbels in het slootje om het eiland het meest interessant :)

We hebben ook een kijkje genomen in het vissenlab, ook een van mijn favo-plekjes. Gelijk een petitie getekend voor de bescherming van haaien, ook hier in Europa. Wist je dat haaienvlees verwerkt wordt in veel Engelse fish-and-chips winkels? Ook van bedreigde haaiensoorten.

Ook deze juweelkardinaalbaarsjes kwamen we daar tegen, vind ze zo mooi!

Goed, we gingen dus officieel op bezoek bij Vicks, die bijna 1 jaar wordt. Verwacht ik een uit de kluiten gewassen jong aan te treffen, is hij al bijna net zo groot als zijn moeder! Ma links, Vicks dus rechts...


Nog een fotootje van mijn klimgeit, elke steen was voor hem! Vooral het stukje bij de poolvossen vond hij geweldig (niet op de foto, dit is bij het Prins Alfredhert). Je zou niet zeggen dat hij Ehlers-Danlos syndroom heeft. Hij rent en klimt als ieder gemiddeld kind, alleen valt hij misschien wat sneller... zijn broek kon bij thuiskomst gelijk de prullenbak in, de knieën waren helemaal stuk! Nou ja, hij was toch al aan de kleine kant. Had deze expres al aangedaan :)


Het was echt een succes, we hebben genoten. Af en toe was hij een beetje claustrofobisch, zeker als het wat donker was, zoals in het Oceanium, maar ik moet zeggen dat hij wel dapper was. Alleen de vleermuisgrot wilde hij ECHT niet heen. De krokodillen durfde hij eerst ook niet heen, omdat hij dacht dat ze net als in de vlindertuin of volière gewoon rond liepen zonder afscheiding... maar toch heeft hij het gedaan, en vond het prachtig!
Het was de hele dag prachtig weer, gewoon in onze zomerkleren (alleen had hij zijn winterjas aan, maar dat was eigenlijk te veel), en dat op 5 november.

Eva Owl Event @ JMD Designs

Recently I found the blog JMD Designs, a New Zealand designer. She's currently hosting the Eva Owl Event, where she offers a pattern which you can use with your own ideas. There are 2 categories, 1 for handstitched (embroidery or applique), and 1 for anything else; machine-stitching, painting, scrapbooking, sculpting, whatever. There are prizes to be won, and she also gives out random prizes! But even without prizes, I had to participate, just loving owls, right?

I also made a couple of buttercup-bags (pattern from Rae Hoekstra). The grey bag hasn't got a destination yet, but just wanted to use the fabric.


Calculated what the bag cost me to make it, and it's almost too cheap to tell...

1. Fabric from a sale at a decostore, 10 really large pieces for only 5 euros! Used half a piece, so that's 25 cents.

2. Lining was a leftover from a friend, 0 cent.

3. Batting, found at the thrift-store, let's say a generous 10 cents?

4. Button for the flower (which is from the lining-fabric, by the way), 25 cents at Xenos (pack of 8 for 1,99)

5. Thread to sew the whole thing, 25 cents

6. Snap... perhaps 1 cent

Stunning total: 86 euro cents! That's US $1,18...

This wine-red bag was for a girl that had a skirt her mother made with this fabric. I made her the bag and little coin-purse to match.

This evening there's a craft-evening from the ladies society of our church, going to be crocheting with zpagetti (bags) and cotton (tea-pot, cups and saucers, cookies, cupcakes), for the charity-sale later this month.

There's so much that I need to do, and want to do, only there's not enought time in a week...

Hobby-show and new products

Op 12 februari heb ik meegedaan met een hobbyshow in ons dorp, het was heel gezellig. Mijn kraampje had eigenlijk de naam 'ik-heb-teveel-hobby's'-kraampje moeten hebben! En nog niet eens al mijn hobby's stonden erop, want ik had maar 1 tafel hihihi.



Van links naar rechts (ongeveer): mutsjes, amigurumi, windlichtje (alles gehaakt). In het midden wat zakdoekhoesjes. Ernaast voorop verschillende zeepjes, daarachter gehaakte/gebreide/genaaide tassen. Naast de zeep liggen 2 theeboekjes, daarachter handgeschept papier. Helemaal rechts liggen een paar sets briefpapier die ik digitaal heb gemaakt en dan uitgeprint, daarachter wat kaarten die ik gemaakt heb (gewoon en op de computer). Bijna niet zichtbaar, er hangt een tasje over, een fles omhaakt met zpagetti, en links voor de poppen ligt er nog een hart van. Oh, en op de eerste tas achter de zeep liggen nog wat gehaakte lippenbalsemhoesjes voor aan je sleutelhanger.


Hoezo te veel hobby's??? En dan staan het speksteen en mijn handgemaakte stempels er nog niet eens op. Ik wilde eigenlijk ook mijn laptop meenemen, maar gelukkig heb ik dat niet meer gedaan, want daar was echt geen plek meer voor!


Het geld wat ik verdiende (niet al te veel, maar meer dan ik verwachtte, had maar kleine prijsjes) gaat naar een liefdadig doel. De kinderen van onze kerk houden een actie op het moment voor verschillende doelen in Israël. Dit was voor een tehuis voor gehandicapte kinderen (Jemima) op de Westbank, ze hebben 2 nieuwe busjes nodig.


On February 12 I participated in a hobby-show here in our village, it was very nice. My stand should have been called 'I-have-too-many-hobbies'-stand! And not even everything was on it, because I only had 1 table :)

From left to right (sort of): hats, amigurumi, luminary (all crocheted). Tissue-covers in the middle, and then in front different soaps, behind them some crocheted/knitted/sewn bags. Next to the soap 2 tea-wallets, behind them some hand-made papers. On the right in front some letter-sets that I made digitally and printed, behind that some cards that I made (paper and hybrid). Almost not visible, there's a bag hanging on it, a bottle that I crocheted around with zpagetti, and on the left in front of the dolls there's a heart of that stuff. Oh, and on the first bag behind the soap are a couple of lipbalm-covers for your keychain.

What do you mean, too many hobbies???? And there aren't even my soapstone projects and hand-carved stamps on the table. I wanted to take my laptop, but fortunately I didn't, there really wasn't any space left.

The money that I earned on the show (not too much, but more than I expected, I had small prices) went to charity. The kids from our church have a special event going on now, where they collect money for several causes in Israel. This was for a home for handicapped children (Jemima) on the Westbank, they need two new mini-vans.


Wat nieuwe tasjes die ik heb toegevoegd aan mijn Twinkelstyle-shop. Een lief klein gehaakt tasje, leuk voor kleine dametjes, vintage-stijl. Daarnaast een tasje in hetzelfde motief, maar heel anders door de tweed-wol die ik gebruikt heb. Heeft dezelfde voering als de bloem.
Verder nog een jeans-tas, die ik gemaakt heb van een oude broek van 1 van mijn zoons (heb er nog een hele stapel om gerecycled te worden, af en toe drijven ze me tot wanhoop!), en nog een ander soort gerecyclede tas, gemaakt van plastic zakjes. Hij is een stuk steviger dan de dingen waar hij van gemaakt is!




Some new bags that I put in my Twinkelstyle-shop. First a cute little crocheted handbag, nice for little ladies, vintage-style. Secondly a little bag in the same motive, but a totally different look because I use tweed-yarn. It has the same lining as I made the flower of.
Further a jeans-bag, that I made of old jeans of one of my sons (still got a bunch of them to be recycled, sometimes they drive me to despair!), and another recycled bag that I made of plarn. It is a LOT sturdier than the things it's made of!

Another Auction for Australia

As the other items I put up didn't get a bid till today, I decided to put up another item for auction. It's a set of 3 calendula guest-soaps, approx. 65 gr. together.

The content of these soaps are palm-fat, coconut-oil, sunflower-oil and olive-oil. I also added calendula-leaves in the hot oil and mixed these well, all cooked up. So I don't think it's a problem importing these into Australia.

The rules are the same as for the other auction:

1. Bidding starts at $5.
2. Comment on this post to bid, with your email-address and amount you wish to bid included. Be sure to bid higher than the comment before you.
3. Bids must be in whole dollar increments.
4. Open to international bidders, I'll take care of the postage fees myself!

A group of creative women in the blog world have launched a flood relief auction, that runs for a week and will end on Monday 24th at midnight EST (that's Tuesday 6 am Dutch time).

Toni and Carli at "Make it Perfect" did a great job of putting together this amazing auction! You can read the complete masterlist of auctions there.

I decided to put up 2 items, a cute cupcake-hat for a baby-girl (newborn to approx. 3-4 months)


and a crocheted bracelet. Here my 6-yo is showing it off, but it also fitted my 11-yo.

Owls everywhere!

In een van mijn eerdere posts liet ik vallen dat ik van uiltjes hield... als bewijs zijn hier mijn laatste projecten!





Alles heb ik gemaakt voor Swap-bot (voor degene die niet weet wat dat is: http://www.swap-bot.com/).
Het uiltje voor de Roy G. Biv owl swap green.
Het roze uilenkussen, poppetje en uiltjes-sleutelhanger voor een privé-swap met Bouwiena (voor haar dochtertje die haar kamer in deze kleuren heeft). Kraaltje is leuk, hè? Bij Xenos gehaald.
Het witte setje van mutsje en sjaaltje is voor iemand in verwachting van een meisje.
Het uilentasje en de rest op de foto ging in een doorgeefpakketje van de Dutch Swappers-groep. Alles zelfgemaakt, inclusief de zeepjes.

Dat is trouwens leuk, zeep maken! Mijn schoonmoeder vindt het maar niks, nu ze weet wat er in zeep zit, ze koopt het liever in de winkel... ja hoor, daar zit veel meer troep in! Maar ja, wat op de verpakking staat klinkt natuurlijk veel interessanter dan dat je zegt dat je zeep maakt van frietvet en gootsteenontstopper... misschien moet ik voortaan gewoon maar zeggen: ik gebruik palmvet en natriumhydroxide. En olijfolie en kokosolie. En dan nog de toevoegingen, zoals bv. honing, goudsbloemblaadjes, koffie en/of geurolie.
De zeepjes staan ook in de post van mijn Twinkelstyle-producten. Experimenteren is leuk, toen ik probeerde een koffiegeurtje te krijgen met verschillende geurolies, werd het meer een koekjes-geur, dus heb ik het zeepje maar Koekje bij de koffie-zeep genoemd...

In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that I like owls. Here is the proof, with my latest projects. Everything is made for Swap-bot (for those that don't know it: http://www.swap-bot.com/).
The green owl was made for the Roy G. Biv owl swap Green.
The pink pillow and owl-keyring were made for a private swap with Bouwiena, for her little girl who has her room in these colors.
The white set of little hat and scarf is made for a pregnant gir who's expecting a daughter.
The owl-bag and other products on the picture were added to a PIF-package of the Dutch swappers group. Made everthing myself, including the soaps.

By the way, that's so cool, soap-making! My MIL doesn't like it one bit, now she knows what's in soap, she prefers to buy it in the shop... yes sure, there's more bad stuff included in factory-made soaps! But alright, it sounds a lot more interesting what's on the package, then when I say that I make soap of frying oil and sink plunger (not the red sucker-thing, but chemical stuff).... Maybe I should say I use palm-fat and sodium hydroxide, in the future. And olive-oil and coconut-oil. And then the additives, like honey, calendula-leaves, coffee and/or fragrance oils.
The soaps are also posted in my post of my Twinkelstyle-products. Experimenting is fun, like when I tried to get a coffee-scent with different fragrance oils. But it became more of a cookie-scent, so I called it Cookie with the coffee-soap...
